Ford Lynx 3rd Time Speed Sensor Broken Sign In

Hi All,

I have a problem with my Ford Lynx. The car speed sensor malfunctioned the other day, and the speedometer stayed at zero and the "HOLD" button was lighted. So i went to get it replaced, and as soon as the new one was installed, the car worked fine.

But after two months, the same thing happened again. Thinking that the speed sensor i bought wasnt of good quality, i went and bought a second one. But now after a few weeks the speed sensor is broken again.

Does anyone know what can cause a speed sensor to malfunction? Is it the wiring? But as soon as a new speed sensor is replaced, everything works fine.

I'm scratching my head here, appreciate if anyone can help me with this.

Thanks!

It's very possible that the speed sensor itself wasn't the problem in the first place. It could have been the wiring or the plug all along and simply handling it corrected the problem temporarily.

Which year? Which engine? Automatic or manual transmission? Inspect the speed sensor connector terminals for corrosion, damage, loose pin fitment. Also inspect the wiring harness. Make sure the wiring isn't rubbed through on to metal or the wiring is broken inside the insulation.
