I was driving the other day and had to slow down to allow a driver in front to change lane, I was in third gear and decelerated to around 20mph and the engine just cut out, no stutter, no nothing just stopped dead and the battery light lit up on the dash. this has happened three more times in the last 10 days. So I want it fixed before something happens whilst on the motorway.
The Car idles fine and the gears etc change perfectly. Other forums have led to the idle control valve causing the engine to cut off but these forums also state choking and stuttering symptoms, rough idling, slalling at idle, high or low idle and stalling after start. However the car doesnt suffer from these symptoms. ive checked the vacuum pipes and they seem in good condition without any splits etc.
Can someone please help as Im pushing towards getting a new idle control valve but obviously wont if its not the component thats playing up.

Check engine light on? We didn't have that vehicle here in the states in that year, so can't really give you any detailed information.
If you have a manual transmission, when you were decelerating was the clutch disengaged during the stall?
