Hello,
I have known my CV joint has been going bad for a while (clicking and people telling me) and just have not had the money for a while to get it fixed. Yesterday on my way to Walmart, I noticed that the car seemed to jitter a bit (different than the normal fuel problem jittering). We parked, bought our lunch and went on the work. A short while (maybe .5 mi) out of the parking lot, the car suddenly swerved to the right and I had to turn the wheel about 30° to the left to compensate. About 30 seconds later the car served to the left and I returned the steering wheel to it's normal position. Since then the only other time I drove it (back from work) it has done this alternating between normal and left position every 30 seconds or so.

I've heard people saying that it could be an axle, the CV joint, the steering column.

I make $6.70 and the car is a $500 car and my only mode of transportation, so I can't exactly take it to a mechanic. Any advice?

this is a little tough, i would say it could be the CV joint binding up causing the extreme pull to one side......but its very odd that it alternates like that.

Odd symptom. As dmac stated, could be a CV binding. You may want to check the rack and pinion mounts. The rack could be moving, side to side, but generally, you'll get a clunking noise associated with the movement. Whatever the cause, it doesn't sound safe to drive.
