Fl;ooded Car Sign In

My '92 Chryser Lebaron conv with an auto tranny and a 3.0 L V6 had rising water enter the inside last night from heavy rainfall, The water rose enough to get some inside aobut an inch deep in hte floor mat areas. I know I need to ge thte carpet out and dry it. Do you think any water got into the engine or tranny? What about up the exhaust pipe?. Should I have it towed to a repair shop or can I drive it in an just get the fluids changed? Any advice is appreciated.

Re: Fl;ooded Car Sign In

The car is likely ok; all of the vents for the transmission and engine are well above the water level you mentioned. As far as the water getting in the exhaust system; well all I would worry about is not allowing anyone to stand behind the car when you started it. LOL
There are drain holes in most exhaust systems to allow condensation to leak out. There maybe a bit of water in the pipes but the engine will blow it out pretty quick. Hence don’t stand behind the car.
The water would never get into the engine through the exhaust; again with the depth of water that you mentioned.
Even the fuel tank (if everything is intact) is not vented to the atmosphere so by rights the water shouldn’t have gotten in there either.
Stick the key in and see what happens.
Dan.

Arggh!!!! Perhaps I watch too much news but I think we are going to hear some more about flooded cars - that meaning WATER!

As Dan said at a certain level you will be ok. A car submerged would be about a total loss.

I've only dealt with two and one was brand new and junked and the other had failures for a year that wouln't quitCrazy T
