Hello, I have recently bought a cheap second hand VW polo. I noticed a few days ago that the engine seemed noisier than usual so took a look underneath and the exhaust seemed to be hanging(lower than usual). Today i heard a scraping noise. when i arrived home i took a look under the car and noticed the exhaust has come away(or snapped) around the centre part. Im just wondering if i can fix this myself, or if i need to goto a guarage to have it fixed.Does it sound like i need a complete new exhaust?, or just a part?. will it be expensive?.. I dont have any ramps so i cannot see how bad it is underneath. i have a jack but ive been told not to get underneath the car with it just jacked up as it is dangerous,. Any help/advice will be great.. Thanks , Dan.

I would say take it in and get an estimate for the repairs, for you to buy the equipment to even get under your car safely you likely could pay someone to just do the job. Dan. Canadian "EH"

The smallest leak or break could mean a whole new system. I think I paid a few thousand bucks to be able to do these jobs. Unless you want to go into biz like Dan said just pay for it. By the time you've lost all your hair, a spouse, and used language you thought you'd never use I don't recommend this for DIY work. - T
