I just bought a 2002 volvo S40 Turbo with 98,000 miles. I have noticed exhaust residue/soot on the back of the car. No sign of vehicle burning oil or any smoke from tail pipe. Any ideas?

There isn't normally much out the tailpipe to make soot without a problem. Also the exhaust if original rarely can show it on the car unless bent or replaced and doesn't exit at the right spot,
