Evaporator Canister & Vent solenoid question Sign In

i got the engine code error for evaporator canister and vent solenoid (small leak) and the shop suggested to replace it. i never did, and the next year i failed my emissions test. would this be the cause?? or are the two issues unrelated. thanks.

What was the reason for failing the emissions test?

NO2 levels were above the threshold...

You want to look at that again. There is nothing that goes by "NO2"
Could it be "NOX"?

Sorry i was trying to go by memory. you are correct it was the NOX levels that failed. could that be caused by a problem with the evaporator canister and vent solenoid.

when i originally failed he replaced the O2 sensor i believe, it still failed when retested and he suggested replacing my catalytic converter (which translates to 'buy a new car'), but i had forgotten about the previous issue and want to know if that could be the problem.

thanks for your patience and help.

First off, if you are still having a problem with the evap canister and it is causing the check engine light to come on, that is grounds to be failed right there. As far as the NOX is concerned, that canister has nothing to do with that. High NOX emissions is caused by excessive compustion temperatures. You have to look for things that increase those temps which can be an inoperative EGR system, engine overheating, advanced ignition timing, etc
