Engine swap for Chevy

I have a 1990 Chevy 1500 pickup.It has a 4.3 V6. I blew the head gasket and am wondering if I can swap the engine with a 1981 Chevy straight 6. The truck is an automatic and the straight 6 I have is stick. Please advise..thanks

It'd be tons easier to just fix the head gasket than all the headaches of changing the engine style completly,
