Engine hesitating/losing power Sign In

Hi,

Here are the vitals:

1991 Dodge Shadow - automatic
2.5L - rebuilt w/ 77,000km

I've had the car for about 1 month now. First started to notice this problem about 2 weeks ago. I noticed that after I had parked for a short-time (maybe 5-10min), then started it and went driving that during shifting the engine would lose power, but only for about a second or so, then would resume normally. I did not think too much about it, but the hesitation went from ~1sec to ~1.5-2sec. This indicated to me that something was getting worse. Now since the car was old I figured that maybe the fuel filter was getting clogged and under load it was giving. So I changed it yesterday. Then this morning everything seemed fine for a minute or two when I started it, but soon it was hesitating. Then about 10min into my drive it got really bad and was almost useless going over a bridge. It was powerless going up the bridge. I had my foot on the gas but couldn't break more than 40kmph or so. Then for the rest of the way to work it was hesitating and having low power. Seemed like not enough fuel was getting through. I'm not 100% sure what could be the issue, but thinking fuel pump.

Since I don't really want to spend a great deal of money on this I was hoping that I could get a little help troubleshooting this problem so that I can get right down to fixing it. Sucks not having a car to drive.

Thanks in advance!

A fuel pump is possible but the only way you are going to find out is by using a fuel pressure gauge and rigging it so it can be seen while driving and then drive it until the problem occurs and watch for a pressure drop when it happens.
