Engine Won't Crank but Dash Lights Up	Sign In

I have a 1995 Pontiac Bonneville SSi. When I turn the key all the bells and whistles activate on the dash but not a sound from the engine. This happened once before and I merely rubbed the key a little bit to clean it and it's been fine for about a year. Now it has happened again and cleaning the key does nothing. Does this sound like a bad starter? The battery is only a couple years old.

take a look at your key. is it one of the new antitheft keys??? if you merely rubbed it last time, maybe the chip inside the key is bad.

a bad starter usually gets stuck at the bendix.....youll hear the electric starter motor spinning but no engine turn.

you can try to safely get under the car and while someone trys to start the car hit the starter with a mallot. sometimes the jolt will be enough to free it up.

you can also remove the starter and take it to a parts store, they will usually bench test it for you for free.

Okay, so I thought I would wait until my husband got home and see if his key worked. He said it happened to him once and he just waited for awhile and then it started. So I took my key hoping that it wouldn't start and would start with his, which meant problem solved. Nope. That gd car started with MY key.

Today I ran some errands with no problem. It started fine each time. Now how in the world does TIME enter into this equation? Or is it maybe you try so many times and then something finally connects?
