Emmissions Sign In

I have an 1985 Ford Ranger and would like to take the emmissions out. What would that require of mwe to do?? It will no longer be tested and to repair it is driving me out of my mind.. What would I have to change out ie..(ingnition..dist..) ??

Re: Emmissions Sign In

It's really not quite like just taking things out. Most are designed right into the whole plan and can cause some problems if you try to bypass and eliminate things. What is broken now that is giving you trouble?

In my state even when exempt from an emissions test you can fail if alterations are noted,

I had to take the engine out and replace it. I lost my drawing of the emmission system I did and am finding it hard to understand what my book says..
I know that I have to take out the cat converter..do I have to change the distributor and put on another ingnition..

Re: Emmissions Sign In

Is this the same era engine that should be in this? The emmision controls even in 1985 are really working for you not against you. Anytime or anything that makes an engine more efficient is a plus. A converter is just converting imperfections in the burning of fuel process. If you could burn fuel perfectly all the time you wouldn't really need to alter anything.

So what is it you are missing now? Vacuum hose routing? Things like that? I don't have it but that is available. What engine and year was there and is in there now?
