I brought my 96 geo prizm in to a mechanic and he said i need a flex pipe on my exhaust to pass inspection in my state and i was wondering if the actual labor to do the repair is easy and should i just bring it to the mechanic or try to repair it myself? To bring it to the mechanic they want around 200. Any kind of advice or help would be greatly appreciated

You certainly don't want to attempt this yourself. It requires cutting and welding in places that are very hard to access. I have replaced many, yet I would never attempt it in a driveway setting. The $200 figure sounds a bit steep and you may want to shop around a little because $100 to $150 is more in line for that.
