Doughnut gasketS Sign In

I have a 1998 sable 24v DOHC and I had to remove the catalytic converter Y-pipe.I did not see any doughnut gaskets on the pipes going to the manifold.I thought all cars would have these gaskets I'm not the original owner but my father in law is and he did not have that kind of work done to it.Did these sables come like that? Also at the end of the catalytic converter going to the flex pipe or resonator I will need a new metal gaskets but not sure what this is called? Thanks

can you take a picture? some exhaust have a sort of ball and socket type of flange that wont need a gasket.

but if its indeed the flange type that needs exhaust donuts, take a wire brush and clean the manifold side, it could just be severly rusted you cant notice it or squished that it appears to be one piece.

also check inside the exhaust pipe that when you took it off the manifold it didnt stick inside the exhaust tubing

I didn't see a donut gasket listed but it was confused. Doesn't the replacement look like the original where it connects? Did a gasket come out of old stuff?

Dear Donut,
I don't know if yours has it, but I just replaced a metal donut gasket on my car and there is a metal flange on the side going to the engine as a stop for the flange. Is there a stop? Warning, when you go to beat the thing on, clean the pipe, sand it clean and beat it on with a piece of 1x6, tap tap tap in a circle making an effort not to hurry it and to get it down without bending the lip. Took me about 30 minutes, it was a pain.
