I am having to replace the pins that hold the door henges together in my driver side door because the bearings that go around them have worn out and broken. In the door jam there is a spring that has to be removed to change out the top pin in the henge. A spring compression tool is to big to fit in the area.

Any suggestions on how to remove and replace this spring?

What kind of car is this? Some are a real pill and most are near impossible to do without help or a way to support the door or you'll damage it. Body repair shops certainly have to do this all the time and are sometimes the best bet vs doing it yourself,

If it's anything close to one I own (97 C/K 2500) the whole hinge is welded in and you can get kits for just the pin and bushing which I have and am waiting to get help because the truck is mint and I don't want to chip up the door doing this. Mine isn't broken but just the bronz bushings on just the lower are a little worn but it ticks me off. Take a look at yours to see if it's welded as the body shop I use says it has to be drilled out!! Arggh
