Door Seals Sign In

About a week ago when it was after it got done raining, i got in my 2000 dodge neon and found the windows were fogged up on the inside, i felt the around for water and found the back carpet soaking wet. I dried it all up and immediently checked that all the doors were closed and windows were up, they were. Nexed i checked to see the rubber seal was all still there it was. So today i had a friend sit in the back seat and we went to the car wash, i mainly directed the water all around the outline of the door & windows on both sides. He didn't see any water comming in but the carpet was once again wet. There are no visible signs of water leaking down into it. It's only the carpet that gets wet and not the seats or anything else. Does anybody have any ideas on where the water could be entering or how to detect / fix it.

Thanks,

Jim

Re: Door Seals Sign In

The trunk seal and the rear window seal would be highly suspect.....but...My '04 Dodge was dripping water on my left knee while driving in the rain. It was still under warranty, so I took it to Dodge. Turned out that it was the stop lamp at the top rear of the cab. And, it's a 4 door truck...So, the water can come from almost anywhere.Unsure

Re: Door Seals Sign In

I checked out both of the seals and they both look in good condition, no cracks, none missing, all seem attached properly. Neither the trunk or the rear shelf gets wet. It's just that part of the carpet on the floor behind the passenger seat that gets soaked.

I'm probably just going to end up taking it to a shop to try to find the problem. Does anybody have any general ball park figure of how much it would cost?

Re: Door Seals Sign In

Can't guess how much till you know where it leaks.

A trick that has worked for me is to use painters tape (good stuff) completely over window rubber such that glass to metal is then known sealed. If that stops the problem that tell you. If you don't know whether front or rear or a side something you need to do them one at a time till the problem stops and that's the one.

Note: Good painter's tape will stay on while wet and some abuse but removes without a gummy mess,

KingJim,
Have you found the source of the problem? My driver's side back seat floor is soaked - i can't see that it would be a door or window seal because the carpet is not wet from the door to the floor. When i saw it the first time, while cleaning the inside, a small section about 5" in diameter was wet along with the line where the floor meets the middle floor hump \ next day the whole floor on that side only - nothing since [no rain since]. a friend checked under the car and saw only undercoating - no signs of a hole where water could enter. Thanks for any help - dealer is too much $$$

Re: Door Seals Sign In

I actually had 2 problems where water was coming in at. One was the trunk seal which was causing me to get water collecting in my spare tire storage spot. It's $90 for a new seal, but i just bought some rubber weather stripping and put it in the problem area since mainly the entire seal looked good except for one spot.

As far as the back seat goes there are 2 factory cut holes in the frame just under the door. The previous owner of my car had attempted to seal this spot with just some rubber tape. It probally worked for a deceant amount time as it looked pretty old, but i just decided to weld them over which solved my problem.

If you just pull out the rear seat (just lift it up and the clips will disengage) and pull back the carpet you'll see where i'm talking about. You can confirm that, that the holes are the problem if you spray water through them it should come out.

Hope that helps... if you need any more help just ask.
