It is my brothers vehicle and he does not have access to the internet, so I am assisting him today. He is replacing the distributor on the truck, but was told his cam is also bad, he wants to know if it's possible to use a USED or refurbished cam, and NEW berrings, or does he need to purchase a brand new cam. sorry if the spelling is not correct, I'm not a mechanic and I'm just trying to translate the best I can here. I appreciate any help I can get on this matter. So it depends on what the caps look like. If the journal areas are smooth, you may be able to reuse them. And a refurbished cam is perfectly fine to use. They weld up and grind the camshaft down to factory specs. A used one will probably work if there are no score marks in it. Good luck to your brother. But before you go to all that trouble and expense, exactly what is wrong with the camshaft that is in it? There may be no problem with it. Just wondering and not questioning the ability of the person that said it was bad.
