I am going to replace the brakes on my 2000 Tahoe, and was looking at rotor prices and see them ranging from $25 each at Autozone, to performance ones costing over $100 each. Then I look through forums and see some people saying the cheap ones are fine and some say they are garbage. So I am really confused now! It would be nice to just be able to get them at a local Shucks or Napa or Autozone, but if the ones are much better to order them online, then I would consider that. What are your recommendations? And are the ceramic pads at these stores fine too?

IMO you want at least OE quality. You can do better than OE with the rotors - my personal current favorite is Centric....

Example shown as they bake paint onto non friction surfaces thus they are very rust resistant at hubs which counts a lot where I live. The price can refect overall quality - nicely finished and balanced. I've seen some real cheapos come thru that don't even look machined - not worth the savings IMO.

Ceramic pads (where allowed and meets OE specs) are quiet or at least the quietest if an issue - not usual with this vehicle.

High Performance? What are you getting with that? If this was for a race car I can see it but if just OE grade it's fine.

I look for the machine work and rust resistance with brake parts which is usually consistant with the price. Safety should never be compremised and IMO initial safety of even cheap parts is within spec - mandatory for this State.

You decide based on the up front budget for the job. I do suggest better than the cheapest for most vehicles,

T
