Dashboard lights - '96 Blazer	Sign In

I rode in my brother's '96 Chevy Blazer last night for the first time in a long time (sorry, don't know engine size, if it matters at all). His ABS light was on and he said it never goes off. He was told that it might be a sensor problem of some kind, but the garage never fixed it. On our way to the hockey match we were going to, a car pulled out in front of us and he jammed on his brakes. A red brake light appeared on his display, which looked like the emergency brake light to me, and it wouldn't go off. He tried engaging his emergency brake (after we had stopped, of course) and then pulling the brake release, but it wouldn't go away. Any ideas what would cause these two lights to come on and stay on?

Word from my brother is that it was a broken brake lining?!? $120 to fix it.

The amber anti-lock light is indicating the feature is down but should still behave as normal brakes. Alone, that warning light is not indicating an emergency if you feel comfortable not having that feature.

The red warning for brake means something important is wrong. Many will use that light for parking brake notice, low fluid level, or an imbalance of pressure which would happen with a line letting go with severly compremised braking action.

If you were concerned about the price of the repair just look at the lines you can see from the open hood. Just line is dirt cheap but when rust is the problem they are difficult sometimes to even remove and then make up a duplicate new section as they don't just come pre-bent to exact shape and length. If one rusted out and failed the rest should be given a hard look now if not already done,
