Hi I've got a weird noise in my MG-TF and was hoping someone could help! The background is: - Last thursday i had smoke from the engine and the car started leaking thin, pink-ish coloured liquid onto the road - I took it to a garage who told me it was the head gasket and said they wouldnt touch it and that I should take it to a specialist - The specialist garage took a look and said it wasn't the head gasket but a cracked expansion bottle- so they replaced that - Ever since I've collected it from there there's been a really weird intermittent buzzing/whining noise coming from the engine block, like someone's using a lawn strimmer The characteristics are: - mostly only happens when the engine is up to temperature (but not always) - seems to be set off by going round corners - only happens about once every ten-fifteen minutes on a journey - changes pitch when I brake- the pitch gets higher - stops when the engine is virtually stopped Does anyone have any idea about what this could be? I've taken it back to the garage but of course, its intermittent and refuses to happen when they've got it! Any pointers would be much appreciated Cheers guys! Penny

Can you record the noise and post it on a video hosting site and then send us the link? Noises are hard to diagnose without hearing them. Another option is to take it to the shop that did the coolant jug repair and have them listen to see if they can isolate the source of the noise. You might have to leave the vehicle with them till they can duplicate the noise. Since we volunteer our time and knowledge, we ask for you to please follow up when a problem is resolved.

Just a stab in the dark, possible someting rubbing on the engine cooling fan.. I would look there first, It's hard to pinpoint noises without being there to actually hear them. I would be looking around the area of the last repair.
