Coolant is magically disappearing Sign In

I just bought a 2000 Chevy Venture and my coolant light is coming on and the coolant is disappearing but there is no trace of any leak. I can smell the anti-freeze when the van is running but see no leak. I am fearing that it could be a blown head gasket but the van is running great besides the fact that the coolant is disappearing. If anybody has any ideas of what may be causing this issue I would greatly appreciate any input.

Keep it filled and keep looking - especially at the water pump which might be able to drip while running and not show evidence but the head gasket is highly suspect. That would probably show up as a smell in exhaust, inspecting spark plugs could show it, or a compression test might also. Keep after it and find out to minimize chances of further damage from an overheat,

I am going to get the pressure preassure check done today. Thank you very much for the response. Get this, the dealer that sold the vehicle to me said that these vehicles just go through the coolant like this sometimes. He must think I am a total idiot.

They'll tell you anything sometimes!

Note: Certain GM cars with factory Dex-Cool (tm) had problems up to and including destroying engines. GM just reached a settlement with consumers on this for certain models within so many miles or years. Info can be found at www.GoHTSN.com or in issue #64 of CoolProfit$ Magazine www.ImCool.com ..

Settlement details may be found at....... http://www.modexcool.com/

Have a "cool" day,

T

Once again thank you for that valuable information. I would be nice if I could take advantage of that information.

Hey there. I was just reading through and I thought to myself"could it possibla be lower intake gaskets"?assuming you have the 3400 engine.3100 and 3400 engines where plagued with this and 3800 with upper intake plenum internal wall cracking.
