Hey Guys! I'm relatively new to the industry and brand new to this site and I was looking to get some opinions on a good code reader to purchase.
Some of the features I'm looking for are:
Necessary:
OBDII CODES (Generic & Manufacturer)
Transmission Codes
ABS Codes
It would be nice but not necessary to have:
EOBD - for european cars
View OBDII Live Data from sensors, etc.
OBDI (I'm not really sure about this one, since most vehicles I would be seeing would be '96 or newer)
I found one on Amazon, it looks pretty deceant to me, I was hoping for a second opinion from an expert or someone who has been in the field a while. The scanner I was looking at was an Equus 3160 Innova. It has all of the above features plus some more that I didn't list.
It also has IM readiness status lights, and says it comes with access to an online database that provides flow charts for the DTC's.
Has anyone out there hear of this model before and could provide any feedback from it?
Even if you haven't heard of that particular model, could you still recommend one?

This is just a generic OBD code reader designed for DIYer. Profession techs don't use stuff like that. It will give you some basic, generic info and that is fine for the back yard guy but the tools we use cost $8,000 and up.

Yeah I've seen some of those readers your talking about, theres a lot that get real manufacturer specific too, and some just for trans codes, etc.
I'm mainly just looking for a good start-up one. My current scanner can only pull engine codes and not ABS or Trans codes which is why I'm looking for a new one. Do you know of any that you might be able to recommend for this situation?
One of the features I thought was nice about the one listed above was that it said came with access to an online database that gave the flow charts for trying to resolve a DTC.

At my school we use the snap-on solus pro.
looks like this

idk if HT would reccomend this or not but its a suggestion. gives basic codes and descriptions. ABS TRANS ENG Domestic/Euro live data stream test drive recording print outs etc.

I do recommend that as a good general scan tool and I own one but it also costs about $5000 compared to $150 on the unit he's looking at.

lol oh ik they are expensive lol my teacher has to upgrade the software but the schoool wont give him funding for it haha too pricey. i like it its pretty good. we also have a mocrvat battery tester and a genesis II i think it is its genesis something lol but yeah 150? gl gettin quality scan tool man general tools for my college im going to not including manufacturere specific or scnatools or diagnostics is 10K....with our half of student discount....straight from vendors.....yay for student loans.....(signs life to bank) Bank manager: "alright we'll come by and see how your health is every now and then, we may borrow an arm and a leg at one point in time so we suggest you take out a loan somewhere elxe inscase your out a job for awhile... or we have this new contract to sign away your first born child at birth too! enjoy your loan!"

I don't necessarily have a low price range like the $150 one I posted. I DO want something that will work good for daily use.
I have seen that snap-on reader before but never was able to use it. $5,000 is a little high for me right now though.
I won't mind spending some money on this, I just want to make sure that if I do spend a pretty penny it would be well worth it, on a scanner that wouldn't let me down.

You can get pretty close to professional level by using PC based software like Auto Ingenuity. You supply the laptop and they supply the software, cables and adapters. Those system are around $1400.
