Chevy Astro missing and rough idling

2003 Chevy Astro Van 4.3L 103,000
Missing when accelerating after stop. Rough idling. Check engine light came on and problems began next day. Changed spark plugs, wiring, fuel pump, maf sensor, O2 sensor. Nothings changed. What else can it be?

Take it to your local auto parts store and have the codes pulled and report back. We are glad to help.

I did that yesterday. Said something to the effect of "Missing a Link". I sorry, I don't remember the code. Did not give a specific problem. I will go by again today and get the actual code #. I also installed a new air filter.

Alright...The missing link problem means that the scan tool they were using would not link to the computer in you van. Separate problem all together..(probably). Take a look at the cap and rotor. These Rotors are bad about braking or cracking were the screws hold them down. Also look at the rotor on the top side, real bad about arching threw over time. It will have a lot of black build up on it if it is.

this vehicle probably has central fuel injection which is as it sounds . it has 1 central fuel injector that supplies fuel to each individual cylinder through 6 little plastic tubes with poppet valves on the end of each , because these tubes/injectors are exposed to crankcase vapors + heat and pressure they will sometimes break or become clogged (stuck poppet) if you pull out the engine oil dipstick and it smells heavily of gasoline and the level is unexplainably above the norm you probably have a broken injector tube dumping gas in the crankcase this will feel like an ignition misfire . a stuck poppet will also feel like an ignition misfire but these can usually be flushed using slightly higher than normal pressure on the injector flushing machine, i tend to use 70% gasoline with 30% combustion chamber cleaner operating at 80 psi . some food for thought , good luck and ya scan your codes first and foremost

Update:
I have been told by a different mechanic that gas is leaking onto my crankcase and that points to fuel injector problems. He wants to replace the fuel injector. Is this very labor intensive?

should take 4-5 hours to do it properly ,the parts can be a little pricey though . good luck .Todd

Did you replace distributor cap and rotor? Just trying to get whole picture.

Yes...I did replace the distributor cap and rotor. It helped with the rough idling, but did not alleviate the problem. Still missing upon acceleration.

Hope you read my last post. I blew it. I should have read the whole thread. The 4.3 Vortec engines are known for leaking injector/fuel feed lines. If you are getting fuel into the crankcase, the tech is probably right. Removal of the plenum (which is relatively easy) should reveal the problem. Fuel in the crankcase can destroy an engine very quickly, so don't let this go.
