Charging problems on mustang

Charging problems on mustang Sign In

I have a 94 mustang V6. It has been sitting for awhile. I go to start it and it wont. Battery dead. I charge the battery and have it checked out, its fine. Car starts but battery drains. I checked the alternator( which has the voltage regulator built in). So all that is perfectly fine. The car will run for a good amount of time and just slowly start to eat away at the batterys power. I have no idea what to try next. Please someone help.

Have the battery recharged and tested again; afterwards connect a voltmeter across the battery terminals. Take a reading of the battery voltage; start the car. You should see an increase of one to three volts almost immediately.
Maximum battery voltage should not exceed more then approximately 15.5 volts after the engine has been running for a few minutes.
Tell us what you find.

I have done that before and it was at like 12.6..then it just slowly decreases. The battery thats in there now is brand new and so is the alternator. I've tested them both at different locations to make sure.

Ok now you’re going to have to check whether the alternator is getting the proper feeds and that the wiring to the alternator is intact.
Does the dash have a charge or battery light?
If so does the charge light come on when you turn the ignition to the run position?
If so does the charge light go out after the engine is running?
The bolt on battery terminal at the back of the alternator does it have battery voltage on it? The Black/orange wire.
The yellow/white wire in the plug-in terminal at the alternator does it have battery voltage at all times?
If not check the 20-amp fuse in the engine compartment fuse panel and or the wire itself for open.
The LT green/red in the plug-in terminal does it have power with the ignition in the run position?
If not check the 20-amp fuse #18 in the instrument panel fuse box.
Check these with the plug-in terminal disconnected from the alternator.
Let me know what you find and remember I’m not there to see your test results so be as complete as possible in your report of.
Here’s a wiring diagram of the charging system that may help you.
