Catalytic converter smoking? Sign In

I drive a 99 cavalier 2.2L base model.

Ok, I had my oil changed today at Midas, they also topped off my windshield wiper fluid and rotated my tires. I also added STP Fuel System Cleaner to a full tank of mid-grade gas from citgo. When I got home I noticed smoke coming from my car. I got on the ground to see what it was and it was coming from the Catalytic converter, or what I think is the cat. It is a foot or 2 from the front of the car on the exhaust pipe. It had a weaved pattern to it. I was wondering what could have caused it. I also noticed my windshield wiper fluid was leaking, but that is all the way on the left side of the car and the exhaust is a little right of center.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Do you think it is safe to drive?

Sounds like they may have gotten some oil on the front exhaust pipe. That would certainly smoke until it burned off.
I dont think its the cat/con,thats not a weaved pattern.Front pipe can have a section with a weaved pattern to it.
Safe to drive?
Depends on what causing the smoke.Oil and /or Transmission fluid on a hot exhaust can be dangerous.Especially transmission fluid.
I would drive it right back there and have them inspect it on the lift to see if thats what it is.

Thanks guys. I went back and they cleaned it off and gave me a coupon for a free oil change, it still smells a little funny and smokes a little, but definately not as bad as before.
