1995 Mazda Protoge 1.5 Ltr 4 Cyl 162K Miles I just swapped engines in this car as the first engine through a rod. Put everything back together and the car will start but not idle and will immediately shut down if I don't keep throttle pressed. Not sure were to begin with troubleshooting, any help appreciated.

Is the idle air control solenoid plugged in? Since we volunteer our time and knowledge, we ask for you to please follow up when a problem is resolved.

So, can you tell me if this is the idle air control, because I plugged it in and problem is solved: coming out of the airbox (right next to a plug that I believe controls the mass airflow sensor) there is a cone shaped plug, with the pointy end going into the airbox. I had neglected to plug this in. Is this the idle air control? Thanks.

No, that would be the intake air temp sensor but that will make it run bad too. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We offer help in answering questions, clarifying things or giving advice but we are not a substitute for an on-site inspection by a professional.
