Car turns over but wont start Sign In

I have a 2000 kia sportage 2 wheel drive 2.0 4 cylinder which has sat for 2 years and will not start completely.

It turns over but wont fire. I used ether into the air intake and it starts fine. I have replaced the old gas with new and still no go.

Any suggestions?

Does it stay running when you prime it with ether(starting fluid)? If so let it run a while an use some fuel solvent or seafoam fuel treatment (not too much of either) and it may straighten out. 2 years is a long time especially if outdoors and if a car needs a rest for that long use fuel stabilizer at least each year.

It may have air in lines and take a few tries to purge it out. Fuel in the lines is still the old fuel till burned up thru running it,

It doesnt stay running if started with starter fluid unless you keep spraying a bit in the intake. The prev owner let the vehicle sit after he wrecked it(needs new bumpers and a fender and the frame is intact) but for less than 1k and 50k miles i couldnt pass up grabbing it.

This is most likely a bad fuel problem but in that much time of sitting around other things could cause this too. I would replace the fuel filter and use some SeaFoam solvent (use very sparingly) to break up any "jelly" that old fuel can make. Pure gasoline is not what we are buying at the pumps. There are lots of additives which vary by location that get put in and the additives become the problem when they get old.

Can you even hear the fuel pump working?
