i brought a 200o Cadillac Deville this past Saturday and it turned out to
be overheating I took it to a expensive mechanic and he said the water
pump was leaking. he gave me a super high quote so i had my shade tree mechanic
friend install a new water pump along with the thermostat, coolant drain
and fill with the correct orange coolant because it was filled with
green, and the spark plugs. Some concerns I have with her work is that when she finished with the job tha car was acting crazy coolant was leaking she said oh its the freeze plugs and had me go get some bar's stop leak she had already drained the green coolant/ mixed with water and filled it up 50/50 with the correct orange coolant she poured the bar's stop leak over all that coolant my thoughts is that the stop leak should go in the radiator first but im not sure but this seemed wrong. also her flush was just a drain and refill not a actual flush. I knew I didn't want the car no more but
unlike the ppl that just sold it to me I cant be crooked and sell a car
that i know is ****** up. So i did everything I could to make sure it
ran correctly. immediately after all of this was done I drove about
100miles that day the temp was going past half but would drop before it
got past the notch after half. I thought that was cool so today i was
driving it started to overheat higher i stopped checked it out saw
nothing then a minute later all and i mean all the coolant came out near
the radiator I couldn't see where it was coming from. so i filled it
with water and drove to the expensive mechanic again he said me putting a
gallon of water was overfill my shade tree mechanic put 1 gallon of
water and 1 gallon of coolant so im guessing it was overfilled this time
i saw water coming from the weep hole I'm not sure if that's where it
had gushed out earlier but the expensive mechanic said that was where it
came from he almost told me that was the only problem then there he saw
coolant coming from near the water pump that i just got replaced after
assuring him that i did have the water pump replaced he raised it up and
there was coolant all over the water pump housing and he said there was
a hole in the housing I cant say i saw the hole but a certain area was drenched but it
couldn't have been huge because i couldn't see it. So my question is
could a hole in the water pump housing cause this or was it the extreme
overfill what should I do next. When i drive now and retrace my steps there is leaking on both sides Im not sure if its because of the overfill on the radiator side but im sure its water pump associated on the other side. I talked to a friend he told me to feel the hose from the radiator to the engine and it should be hard but I ran the car and that hose didnt really get any harder i tested my other car and the hose got hard. what should i do about that? I hate this car I wanna sell it but the
integrity in me wont let me sell it and let someone drive home and have
it overheat on them and mess up the engine. Sorry so long thanks for

Sounds like who ever fixed your car doesn't know what they're doing. You don't add bars leak to fix a leak you replace the faulty component. This may be a fact of installation error too. I know I had to redo a job on a 4.9 caddie (92-93 cant remember)... The person who put on the first water pump put Sh!t load of silicon on both sides of the gasket and made the pump actual stick out a tad further then it was suppose to sit causing the impeller not to go into the block far enough to pump the water properly.. If it's leaking from the weep hole should be able to get a new one under warranty. Make sure the surfaced was cleaned properly no silicone was added just the gasket. If you want you can use a coolant pressure tester to see where the leak is coming from. Most autopart stores have a lend a tool program.

you are absolutely right i looked at the parts she took off and there was a big rubberband looking gasket on it then i looked in the box in the box where the new water pump came out and the gasket was still in the box! I called her and she told me the dumbest thing that the old water pump had 2 gaskets on it so when she took the pump out she used one of the old gaskets. The car is leaking 50x worst with the new water pump than the old one. is it even possible that there was 2 gaskets on the old water pump wouldnt the fit had been messed up i'm super agitated cuz she wont admit that she just forgot to put on the gasket i really think 2 gaskets on the water pump would mess up the whole fit Sounds like who ever fixed your car doesn't know what they're doing. Only thing you can do is remove the pump clean off all the old gasket material and install a new gasket, make sure the mating surface on the block side is %100 clean. It will leak if there is 2 gaskets it will never mate properly.
