Car cutting out - spanner & engine light on

I am the owner of a vauxhall astra diesel van 2004 registered. For the past week it has been cutting out at the most inoportune moments - at traffic lights, whilst driving etc. The spanner and engine light comes on and stays on for a while then goes off. What is this? Van was serviced 7 months ago. Manual says its something to do with the key? Is this right does anyone know?

This is something you are going to want to get a handle on..... Start off with getting the codes pulled to see what's going on....
I'm not familiar with that model but over here the spanner is usually for maintenance, it comes on after so many miles. On some Fords it's associated with a trans code.....
But the bottomline you don't want to be driving it too much running poorly or you could be doing harm to other systems.....
