Car accelerated by itself. MAF problem? Sign In

I drive a 1999 Nissan Altima with 105325 miles on it. Earlier today the check engine light came on so I hooked up a diagnostic device to it. It came back saying that the MAF sensor was the problem. I unplugged all the hoses for the air duct system and put them back together. The check engine light came off and the car ran fine for a few hours. Later as I was driving, the car started to speed up and would not stop. I had to put the car into neutral and then turn the ignition to shut it off. Ran a diagnostic on it again and it came back saying that it was the MAF sensor and Knock sensor.

Is it possible for the MAF sensor to make my car speed up on its own and how do I fix this?

There is no code that tells you the MAF is bad. The code merely tells you what condition the computer saw. Clear all the codes and start over. When the check engine lights comes back on, read the code and post the code number.

The PO325 is a problem with the knock sensor circuit. On a Nissan, that's usually a bad knock sensor.

The PO100 indicates there is a problem with the MAF circuit. This could be the sensor itself but could also be any of the wiring in the circuit or the PCM itself. There is a diagnostic flow chart for that code but all the tests require a professional, bidirectional scan tool.

I know that people have had cars kinda stall out and shut down with the MAF circuit problem but is it possible that that was the problem that caused it to speed up? Thanks for the help btw.

Your not going to know until you repair the MAF problem.
