Car Wont start

Failing to Start:
I have an UK R reg 1997 Mark 3 1.9 Gold Turbo Diesel with a drago performace chip. About a week ago I had the cambelt changed - although I dont belive this to be of fault I thought I should mention it. I watched the chap do it and everything lined up well and it started no problem and ran fine for a week. Early Saturday morning, about 0200, I went to start the car and it wouldnt run. The starter motor was turning and the car felt as if it wanted to start but was having none of it. There was a fair bit of white smoke coming out of the exhast. Breaksdown man came, battery boost as I had flattened it trying to start and it kicked into life, he suggested change the glowplugs. Had a couple of problems on the way home - some loss of power with white smoke, but would soon recover. Fine Sat&Sun. This morning came out - nothing. Took some advice and changed fuel filter and glowplugs today. Still nothing. Took injectors off to bleed fuel through, but would not start. Has anyone got any ideas!? Many Thanks, James Watson

James; I'd recheck the cam timing. White smoke from a diesel is an indication of overfueling.

Hi Loren, thanks for your help, excuse the thinkness of this question - but are we talking about the cambelt perhaps jumping a tooth? Thanks, James

James; Yes, cambelt. Or, timing belt. Have to excuse us colonists. We don't speak English. LOL. Kind of a derivitive?

Lol, dam brits eh? Well I have given up now, I tried everything i know as a DIY mechy. Car is off to the people who know tomorrow. Will let you know what they find! Thanks for your help Loren.

Loren - Many Thanks for your help. You were 100% right about checking the cam belt. The guy who put it in for me didn't tighten the cam shaft bolt up, he just did it by hand. So as you probably know it caused a lot of damage to the cam shaft, which it turn bent the valves etc. Which resulted in the car being a right off! Live and Learn - always take it to a garage!!!

James; Sorry to hear of your misfortune. If the VW is still in, otherwise, good shape, might check around for a used cylinder head. I'm not a fan of diesels, but would be a lot cheaper than replacing the car. Have a great weekend.
