Well I recently bought a used 2001 Pontiac Grand Prix GT with a v6 3.7L engine with ~195,000 miles on it. When I bought it I realized this but now its beginning to bother me and cause concern. When I turn on my vents in the car, air conditioning or heat or even just the normal vent blowing out air, there is a faint smell of either burning oil or rubber. You can only smell it really from the driver side vent and you can smell it a lot as soon as you step out of the car right when you turn it off, but the smell goes away quickly. My front right tire strut is completely unaligned, need to fix it sometime, and the rubber boot around it is melted and always gets gooey and melting when I drive it, this is my biggest concern and was wondering if that could be the smell, but my dad was really set on it being burning oil. I just would really like to know the issue here :/

You have known burned rubber and it would make an odor in the car if not thru vents some would get in.

For sure pay attention to oil or other things burning on engine heat but you know of that one so take care of that at once! Actually you shouldn't be driving it at all with that problem!

You have an oil leak and it is dripping onto the exhaust.
