Break Issue Sign In

I have a 1991 Cadillac Seville ... When i purchased the car there was no fluid going to the front right break ... i replaced the front calipers and pads and also a portion of the break line ... the original diagnosis for the no fluid in the passenger side front was caused by the brake hose ... which was also replaced .... after driving for a day or so i saw fluid on my right front tire and check my fluid level and it was empty .... i looked and saw that where the brake hose and caliper connect is where the fluid is leaking from .... THE HOSE AND CALIPER ARE NEW .... both have been replaced and yet i still have a leak .... the bolt is also in as tight as it will go and a new mounting bolt came with caliper.... please help as i almost got killed today ....

With leaks, it's pretty straight forward, find what is leaking and repair the leak. With the hose going to the caliper there are 2 copper washers used for sealing, if they weren't installed on the bolt, then you will have a leak.

With brakes, if you are familiar with the system, then it's not a problem doing the work. If you don't have the experience, with hydraulic work it is sometimes better to pay to have it done and be safe than the alterbative. You are lucky you or someone else didn't get hurt. I would strongly suggest taking the car into a shop and having it repaired properly........

i already had my mechanic look at it an work on it and when he did the work it stopped leaking and then started a few days afterwards ..... and both washers were installed and i have done front and rear brakes on 3 cars multiple times .... just curious y it would be leaking if the washers are in place and both parts that where the leak is are brand new ? also should i get replacement parts since they are under warranty ???? saying that the ones i have are defective ? and i will that cause my caliper to go bad ? been driving it for about 7 days how it is ...

and the brake light is on ... when the problem began ... it would go on when the fluid got low and now its staying on ....

If it's leaking right at the hose connection of the caliper and both sealing washers were used, then I would definitely change out the caliper. I have seen reman calipers with "dinged" up areas where the washers go and leak. I would also inspect the sealing area of hose as well. This usually goes without saying but the whole system needs to be inspected, all lines, hoses & components.....

After the replacement, the repair has to be verified as fixed. Checking the area while pumping the pedal. Drive the car & recheck the area. Considering what has already happened you need to be keep a very close eye on the fluid level for a while.

yes well all this has already been done ..... and still have a leak ... should i get a replacement caliper and hose ... and would this have worn down my pads ?
