Brake Shoe Adjustment??

Ok i had just replaced the parking brake cable on the passenger side of my car. Went to test it out and the parking brake only applies on the drivers side... the passenger back wheel can still free spin. I'm pretty sure the cable is installed correctly so i figured the shoes need adjusted. The problem is, is that i've never done this before and would like some advice or tips. Any help would be much appriciated.

I have to be general because you didn't say what kind of car this is. If one cable had to be replaced and that side works the other is almost certainly frozen. If there was an adjustment problem neither would work. Did you alter the brake's regular adjustment to do this job? That may be useful on both back brakes but it's not the cause of this, T

its a '94 acclaim and the side that i replaced was the passenger side (the one that doesn't work) I have the entire back end off the ground and i can apply and release the brake the driver side goes on and off as it should but the passenger side don't go on at all. The cables that i actually replaced was the passenger side cable and the front cable. the driver side cable seemed to be working ok.

I don't know just exactly the pre-set adjustment for the parking brake cables but it's just one. It's possible that the new one needs to be reset as it seems like it manages to get a tug to the working old one. Look at them while someone applies the brake. If they both show movement that's what they are supposed to do. If there is so much needed for the one that doesn't work then the cable is too long for it or the service brake adjustment is so far off that the cable has pulled all it can and then applies the old working one. Did you take a good look at the back brakes in general. They should be evenly worn on each side. If one did stay on from a frozen cable it would show much more wear and you really need to do a rear brake job. At the age do wheel cylinders too and toss the drums if they haven't been done before. They don't give much extra metal on these things anymore and getting them to behave if out of spec is difficult and just isn't the way to go anyway. Always have the regular brakes set and adjusted first before making adjustment to the parking brake cable which should be a one time deal and only when one is replaced or things get screwed up. If you don't have a helper you can just pull on the cable (front) and watch the others and how far they travel. Perfect is when about 7 clicks holds the brakes pretty well. You don't want it (parking) brake too snug as it can drag with different loads in the car, T

well i didn't take too close of a look at the brakes but i do know that the passenger side brake was engaged because of the parking brake so i'd imagine that it would be more worn down than the other one.
