I've got a leaking radiator on a 1997 Chevy 1/2 ton Silverado PU with a 5.7L vortex V8 engine. I'm wanting to use a product called K&W Block Seal as a one shot fix in case there are other leaks in the coolant system. The truck has about 128K miles on the odometer. I've been asking other mechanics about this method and some say it would be good to use but one said that I should not use it because it may clog some of the cooling paths and cause problems later. My radiator has plastic ends on it and I'm not sure if the product would work if the crack is in the plastic part of the radiator. I read that if I use this type of product that I would want to put a bypass in the heater hose to keep the heater core from getting cloged. I've already installed a rebuilt water pump and new hoses and those are not in question.
Should I spend the $$$ for the new radiator and save myself problems with the engine or should I save the $$$, time and labor and use the Block Seal?

I would get or fix the radiator. I've used sealers for some real junkers and it can work but it you do just use half at a time and it has to have a good rad cap as you are basically pushing sawdust into the leak which will need the pressure.

So unless this truck is total junk I say NO - fix it. T
