I took my car to a mechanic and I just had a brake line replaced cause my pedal was going to the floor. The brake fluid is now full on my car and I think he did a good job. But I was wondering if I was being paranoid about a spongy brake pedal. I only had my car for 2 weeks and when the brake line went my pedal would go to the floor and not really stop or just barely stop. Now the mechanic fixed it and when I press on my brake pedal, it takes about 1-2 inches till I feel resistance. ** pretty far from the floor* I was wondering is this normal and I'm just being paranoid? I just been reading alot on the brakes because of my incident and was hoping he bled the brakes properly. Like I said the brakes work fine now and the car actually stops but does it make sense for the brakes not to start any resistance till about 1-2 inches of pushing the pedal down?

1-2" of pedal travel doesn't seem out of the realm. However, there's a difference between a 'spongy' and solid pedal. The pedal shouldn't feel 'spongy'. If it does, sounds like there is more air left in the system. If the pedal is just 'lower' than normal, does it feel okay if you 'pump' the pedal a couple of times? If so, could be that the rear brakes need to be adjusted or the master cylinder was damaged by 'going to the floor' one too many times.

Yeah everything feels fine once I get past that 1-2 inch part. It slows down fine, brakes respond perfectly after that and it stops fine as well. I don't even need to go to the floor with the pedal anymore. Just thought I was being paranoid cause i wasn't sure about the 1-2 inch leeway I guess.
