Altima Engine cools while driving Sign In

What would cause a 2000 Altima's engine to cool down at highway speeds. The heater will cool down at the same pace. Car is fine when I drive in stop and go traffic or at slow speeds. I have tried changing the thermostat.

The only thing that I can think of would be the thermostat. Hmmmmm. You should be using a 192/195F thermostat. Improper install, or just defective? Buy a good quality stat from the dealer or a parts store like NAPA. Could be a gasket leaving a gap for coolant to bypass?

Was also posted in the "Heat and A/C" section and I just said about the same thing. New or not, thermostat should hold its designated temp or something's wrong. Coolant is slipping by somehow,

just throwing something out there......are your fans working???? if not the engine is getting hot at idle/low speeds and then the highway speeds force more air through the radiator causing more heat exchange
