The heater will cool down at the same pace. Car is fine when I drive in stop and go traffic or at slow speeds. I have tried changing the thermostat. Hmmmmm. You should be using a 192/195F thermostat. Improper install, or just defective? Buy a good quality stat from the dealer or a parts store like NAPA. Could be a gasket leaving a gap for coolant to bypass? New or not, thermostat should hold its designated temp or something's wrong.
