Hi There, I have a 2001 Alero, and I have lost all heat. It Blows Ice Cold Air Only. Considering I live in the North East with temps in the 20's not good. I am wonder if my Therostat is stuck open? But I think I should get heat will idling - not driving with the cold air? Unless one of my vacum lines craked or the core is blocked. Any info would be great - before we get below 20 degress. Thank you soo much.. John

With the engine at full operating temp, locate the 2 heater hoses where they go into the firewall and feel them to see if they are both too hot to hold. If they are.......... The heat in that vehicle is controlled by a blend door that regulates heated air flow. it is operated by an electric motor/actuator. The problem can be that the actuator is stripped or inoperative or the door itself could be damaged. This is what needs to be determined by examining the actuator and see if it is responding to heat change commands or not. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We offer help in answering questions, clarifying things or giving advice but we are not a substitute for an on-site inspection by a professional.

John - test as HT suggested. A stuck open t-stat would still pant warmer air if the problem. From Mass so know what cold is big time. Inland just a bit and been in -45F in NH, VT, and Maine. Don't kiss metal flag poles! Yes - T-stats can fail and stay open but not that common, T
