Air conditioner question - 95 Civic EX

Hi, I drive a 1995 Honda Civic EX. I've been having a problem only when my air conditioner is on.
For whatever reason, the car makes a squealing noise. When I hit the brakes, it stops. I've realized over time that it occurs only when the AC is on.
Any ideas on what this is?
