A Hypothetical Question Sign In

What will happen if you remove the fuse for an airbag for most of the year, however put it back for the vehicle to pass inspection. Reason I ask is we are thinking about purchasing a car that has an airbag, and we do not want to risk the accidental deployment of it, for various reasons. Can anyone give me some advice?

First off use all caution even touching an air bag related anything. Static electricity or similar may deploy an air bag just fooling around with any wiring to do with it or them!

There are legal ramifications to purposely disabling safety equipment of any kind.

If after an incident it is found that anything was tampered with you might have some serious problems with legal and or insurance payouts.

Pretty sure you can legally get these things disabled legally for some good reasons and probably requires a doctor's letter and approval by your place of registering vehicles.

I live in one of the most highly regulated states in the US and am just 1/2 hour's drive away from one of the least which would be New Hampshire. NH, TMK doesn't require auto insurance for vehicles owned and used by driver's with a totally clean driving record (that might have changed). This also means it's illegal for them to drive that vehicle in any other state.

Don't know where you are from so you would have to check on your local laws about
this. Your inspection place should have the best info for this or if in the US try www.DMV.org and click on your state. -- T

Re: A Hypothetical Question Sign In

what is said above is totally true, however you air bag is equip with a capacitor so even with the fuse removed your capacitor may still have enough current to deploy the air bag within a certain time range. if you do decide tomess with the air bag system, on most car, those yellow wire are part of that system unless otherwise label as so. handicap people can have those legally disabled.......ironic.
