ABS light on after ball joint fix

1997 Olds Bravada Engine: 80,000 miles Vehicle: 160,000 miles Recently had both front ball joints repaired, afterwards the anti lock brake light in my car came on and stays on. Never been on before. Mechanic says this can happen when the area around them has been worked on, states that both wheel bearings have gone bad and that is what is probably making the light come on. Sound about right? Any other reason? Could it come on if ball joints were not repaired properly?

The ABS speed sensor are in the same area as the work done..... There would have to be a lot of play in the wheel bearing to make the light come on...doubtful If I had to guess there is either a lot of debri on the exciter ring blocking the sensor or the senor got damaged with the frt end work (not uncommon if you aren't careful) That problem should be fairly easy to diagnos with the proper tools

the sensor had a magnetic pick up.....i guess its possible that if the bearing went bad like said above the sensor is not getting a proper reading..... however a worn bearing itself shouldnt affect the sensor. my guess would be is that when the work was being performed on the ball joints at some point the sensor itself was hit with something or the wire was stretched to the point that the wires inside have broken. __________________________________________________ 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee 2002 Ford Ranger 2004 Toyota Corolla 1969 Ford Mustang Mach 1

Just to add: I've seen metalic dirt/debris catch up in the magnet and was fine when blown out with air if that's a possibility, T

It could be that your wheel lug nuts were improperly tightened. If they are too tight, it could cause the ABS light to come on. Check your manual for the correct torque, loosen and tighten them to the correct specs. Its an easy, no cost attempt to fix it!
