A/C Blower Vent Problem after Battery install Sign In

2004 GMC Envoy, 4.6 6cyl, 68,000. Went in to Walmart with all A/C blower vent working. Had new battery installed, left with the front/top 4 vents not blowing. All other vents, defroster, floor vents and rear ac all work. I returned to Walmart they said replacing the battery couldn't be related. They removed fuse under hood and put it back in. That didn't work and they had no other ideas. Any help would be appreciated.

Re: A/C Blower Vent Problem after Battery install Sign In

I try to explain this that makes sense. Just hear what I'm saying...

It's not Walmarts fault............

It is related to the battery install but it ISN'T the shops fault. The problem is a bad mode door actuator. What happens is, everytime the power is disconnected & reconnected the door does a "self test". Basically what this is, the door goes from stop to stop so it "knows the travel length. Once it hits one stop it senses the pressure and goes to the other stop and then it's good. There is a plastic gear inside and over time the plastic gets weak, so when it does a self test, the pressure of the stop cracks the gear, it gets stuck on that stop and no longer controls the vents. If you had a bad alternator and ran your battery down this problem would've happened.....

The actuator is around $40 from the dealer. If you install this yourself, make SURE the actuator is bolted in place before you plug it in. As soon as you plug it in, it will do a self test and if it isn't hooked on to door to stop it, well then, now you're taking apart a new actuator to recenter it and try again (don't ask me how I know this Wink)

With the way the connecter is on those.....It's sooooooo much easier to install them with connecter already plugged in....... You're better off just disconnecting the battery and then installing it.............
