99 tahoe running hot still..	Sign In

I have a 1999 chevy tahoe 5.7 roughly 165k, i bought it used and from the day i got it it always ran a little cooler than most chevys i have seen(mine would hold around 160). recently it started running warm, over the normal 195 and would hold about 225. i checked the thermostat which was pretty dirty so i replaced it and gave it a good flush. at this time i noticed a leak in the water pump and a large crack in the radiator. over the next couple weeks i replaced the pump and radiator with brand new parts and flushed again. yet its still running hot! going downhill it will cool and hold around the normal 195 but when i am driving at highway speeds it will climb to 230+. although it has not hit the redline and really overheated i know this driving warm could be bad for many reasons.

If you could get a scan tool and watch the ECT parameter in the datastream, you could make sure your gauge jives with what your seeing on the scan tool.

How is the condenser? Make sure the condenser isn't plugged up or has bent fins cause air flow problems through the radiator. Did you flush out the heater core? Look at the intake gaskets and make sure they are not leaking.

It should never run at that temp. That's an indication of a bad thermostat that may have developed into a worse problem by restricting flow now.
