Does it restart after it finally dies? If it doesn't that is the time to check what is missing. Things to check would be fuel pressure, communications with the PCM using your scan tool, injector pulse, and spark. Once you know what is missing, then you can figure out why. Since we volunteer our time and knowledge, we ask for you to please follow up when a problem is resolved.

Probably wouldn't be a bad idea to check fuel pressure when the problem is occurring. Engine running fuel pressure should be around 25 psi and the test port is located on the fuel rail. Since we volunteer our time and knowledge, we ask for you to please follow up when a problem is resolved.

Discrete, Isn't this a variable system using a FPDM? I'm showing a spec of 35 to 55 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We offer help in answering questions, clarifying things or giving advice but we are not a substitute for an on-site inspection by a professional.

I'm showing a running pressure of 172 kPa for a 2.0L (P) motor and 2.0L (3) DOHC. Maximum pressure is 345-352 kpa. Where you testing pressure when the problem was occurring? Since we volunteer our time and knowledge, we ask for you to please follow up when a problem is resolved.

Here's what Alldata says Key ON Engine OFF 240-380 kPa (35-55 psi) This fuel pressure specification is included within the pinpoint test HC which tests Fuel Control. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We offer help in answering questions, clarifying things or giving advice but we are not a substitute for an on-site inspection by a professional.

Hammer are you using Motor3k or you on discs? I see what you mean. That trouble chart has you testing maximum fuel pressure by using a scan tool. It's funny, but if you go to powertrain management/fuel delievery air induction/fuel pressure/specification/pressure,vacuum, and temperature, it shows the values I plugged in earlier. I would tend to go with the HC charts that you posted for max fuel pressure. My question is what is the operating pressure with the engine running? Depending on the information the PCM receives from the sensors on the engine and the feedback it gets from the FPS, those values may differ. Don't have one in the shop to compare those figures to. Don't know if the OP has access to a scan tool to enable the fuel pump to go max. Since we volunteer our time and knowledge, we ask for you to please follow up when a problem is resolved.

Not in mine . As far as the running pressure, it varies determine by the FPDM and the fuel pressure sensor.

Here ya go, running pressures. Typical scan tool value. Someone on Motor3K messed up, which doesn't surprise me. Does yours match? Since we volunteer our time and knowledge, we ask for you to please follow up when a problem is resolved.

Looks like that pressure is obviously too low regardless of when it occurred, right? ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We offer help in answering questions, clarifying things or giving advice but we are not a substitute for an on-site inspection by a professional.

Yep, if those PID values are correct...LOL. Would be nice to know for sure by seeing what the pressure is when the car is acting normal. I love engineers making things complex. Since we volunteer our time and knowledge, we ask for you to please follow up when a problem is resolved.

It's not just the fuel pump to be concerned with in that car. It has a driver module and pressure sensor that play a big part too. You really need an expensive, professional scan tool to be able to diagnose that.
