99' Mercury Sable tensioner problem.

99' Mercury Sable tensioner problem.

So I had a whinning noise that kept getting worse. I thought it was the PS pump. Anyhow, I take all of it down and releize that its probably a good time to replace the tensioner pulley and the idler pulley along with the PS pump. I pull it all and put it back together with new pulleys and PS pump. 20 miles later the belt is rubbing on the tensioner and the bearings on the tensioner pulley blow out and thus the belt. I just cannot figure out why the belt would have rubbed on the tensioner and furthermore why the bearings would go shot so quickly. What am I missing here? (my original complaint was fixed (the whinning) but obviously I have more serious issues now. Any ideas? My plan is to pull the coolant tank, then the tensioner and put a new tensioner or (tensioner pully). But I am afraid I might just be right back where I am right now because something else is messed up.

Turns out they gave me a faulty part and the bearing spun on the tensioner. Now if I could get the new PS pump to quit making so much noise even after I bled it!??!?

A thought: If the new PS pump has been allowed to buzz and whine from lack of proper fluid then it could be junk now again
If (don't know on this) the PS fluid pressure is used for anything other than the power steering (anti-lock brakes perhaps) then bleeding it may require more than just turning it left and right,

Raise the front of the car and safely support it so the wheels are off the ground. Disable the car so it won't start.(unplug coils, trip inertia switch). Then turn the ignition to start and turn the steering wheel from lock to lock 2 times. Make sure when you stop cranking the car the wheel is turned all the way to the right. Remove reservoir cap and look for small bubbles or a foamy looking fluid. Allow this to dissipate and do the cranking and turning thing again but stop on the left lock. Wait for foam to be gone and repeat. This may take a few times but it will purge all the air from system. Make the car runnable again and go drive with a few lock to lock turns and ir sholud complete the purging.

Why thank you Mr. Greenleaf. Practiced on a lot of these to get that down pat. I think it is in the manual somewhere also.
