'99 Grand Am randomly died Sign In

Hello, I'm wondering if anyone has any idea why a car would randomly die while driving it? I have a '99 Grand Am with just over 100,000 miles on it. It's been very well maintained and loved.
A few weeks ago the engine light came on so I took it to the shop to get it checked out, they replaced spark plugs and the case around them was cracked...? Payed 'em and went on with life. A week and a half later my car died on the road while passing a semi truck. Towed it to the same shop where they replaced the same parts because they had shorted out. Now I get ready to leave for work and it dies in the middle of the road. It will start, but I have to floor it to keep it running, which makes it rather difficult to drive! No funny noises, no smells, no feelings other than it doesn't want to accellerate, or keep running now. My dad thinks it may be the timing belt, and a friend thinks I may need to rebuild the transmition. I'm hoping to find someone who knows more about this than I do and can point me in the right direction. Help please?!
