99 GMC Suburban, Clunk and Hesitation at 43-45 mph Sign In

Hi, I have a 99 GMC Suburban that I'm hearing a clunk and feeling a hesitation as I accelerate from 43-45 mph. Sometimes the clunk and hesitating lasts from 40 all the way to 50 mph. The clunk is coming from under the hood in front of the drivers side.

I'm not sure if it's engine or transmission, so sorry if I posted this in the wrong place. I recently started taking it on the beach 4 wheeling. Not sure if that helps. Any help would be appreciated Smile

Hi,

This place is fine. It's a tough call as to what that might be? That's about the area it would be locking the transmission for overdrive and that could be the issue. Doesn't usually happen at higher speeds but driver's side motor mount comes to mind too as the engine should have a lifting force on that side with power applied.

This may need to be witnessed by a tech to nail down. Rule out anything loose underhood for now - chiefly I'm lost as what else to suggest,

Thanks for the response! The motor mount is fine. I think this is sand related. I lost my break lights today, and my husband is out their fixing it right now. Somehow sand managed to get into the break switch area. Unfortunately this has prevented him from checking out the other problem as he was going over the wires till he found the sand in the break switch, and it was time consuming.

As for the original problem that I posted about; now I'm starting to feel that bump and hesitation at all different speeds. Something tells me it's also sand related. I'll bring it to the mechanic tomorrow, and I'll post whatever the problem was in case anyone else ever encounters something similar.

Thanks again :)

Just tweaked my curiosity - was this car ever submerged in water? Generally sand or real dirt doesn't get near a brake switch!

I was wondering what the mechanic told you on the hesitation issue. I have exactly the same issue, and cannot get a good answer thanks Paul
