99 Ford Taurus Gas Problems Sign In

Hey guys, Needing a little bit of help with my 99 ford taurus SE, the engine in this car is a v6 3.0 OHV. as of lately it seems to be sucking gas like crazy. Im pretty sure there are 2 oxygen sensors out. But from what ive been told they wouldnt cause it to be horrible on gas like it is. Not sure which ones are out bc i know there are upstream ones and downstream ones. This car has 206k miles on it, Have taken good care of it. Do you guys know why I am having such a big problem with this car sucking the gas. it literally drinks gas like it is a v8. any more further you may need you can email me at (email addresss deleted) Thanks a bunch!

Took out your email address as you should get a notice of a reply made privately - this is open web.

*First thing to do is get a code reading. OBDII systems should lead to a problem or plain say if O2 sensor(s) are involved and which one.

*Take ongoing log of real gas mileage. Consumers sure aren't thrilled with the high gas prices and if you are one who just puts X dollars / week in you need to dig deeper. One check of MPG is not as good as an ongoing stream of tracking it as pumps will shut off earlier or later by a bit. It hurts but fill it up as some will just put what they have for $$ in and that's not a way to know MPGs.

* Also - if no codes show and all maintenance up to date is there anything different about the car's use? A new driver?

* Is the car running properly as expected?

-- The tire pressure kept as per car's suggested pressure is possibly #1 after after the way the car is driven for fuel consumption,

If it your upstream O2's it can cause poor gas miliage expecially if its stuck lean. Then it thinks it's lean and trys to poor more fuel to it.
