'99 Explorer - Grinding noise when I turn left

My '99 Explorer has a metallic grinding noise that is most noticeable when turning left. Sometimes I also hear it when braking. It sounds like it is coming from the left wheel area. I first thought it was a brake problem but it sounds worst when turning and not braking?
