98 dodge dakota

98 dodge dakota Sign In

I have 98 dodge dakota sport with a 318 5.2 liter automatic 2 wheel drive that is getting no spark and no fuel. engine cranks but doesnt start. have replaced the crank position sensor, switched the fuel pump relay and auto shut down relay. i appreciate your help

Hi

Possibly the cam Sensor (Hall effect switch) inside the distributor.

P.S..Just thinking too..check to make sure the distributor shaft is turning....make sure it didn't jump time.

I guess its the "points" on a 56 chevy...LOL

The Camshaft Position (CMP) sensor provides camshaft position information which is used by the ECM for fuel and ignition system synchronization. The sensor is a Hall effect digital sensor. It has a metal pulse ring and a pickup assembly located inside the distributor. The CMP signal is a digital on/off type signal. When the pulse ring travels through the pickup, a permanent magnet inside the pickup creates magnetism, which induces voltage. The pulse ring has slots, or one large slot; as the slot(s) pass, the pickup loses its magnetism and voltage is lost, thereby generating the on/off signal. The CMP and Crankshaft Position (CKP) sensor let the ECM know the position of the camshaft and crankshaft, so the engine can be properly timed.

Looks like this removed...notice the pulse ring inside the distributor..that passes thru this...

This is what creates the spark....signals the coil...just like how old ignition points used to do...
If the PCM doesn't receive this signal,or crank shaft position sensor signal, the automatic shutdown relay (ASD) will shut off the fuel pump,injectors,02's,etc.
The PCM controls the injectors based on inputs from this and crank sensor and various sensors.

Replaced crankshaft sensor was replaced 2X, both times it ran for a block then wont restart again, what could it be?

Have you had the pcm replaced?, what kinda codes are coming up?
