98 Sunfire front wheel bearing question

I've looked thru the earlier posts but did not find quite what I was looking for, hence my question. I took my car to a shop yesterday because I needed to get my front and rear breaks replaced (rotor+pads on the front and shoes on the back). When I was picking it up from the shop they mentioned that my front wheel bearing might be going bad as it was making some sound when they test drove the car. The question is what sound should I be looking for that would help me detect if I do have a bearing problem. Also I have noticed today as I was trying to pay more attention to the car while driving, that I think I hear a 'flat or somewhat chewedup tire' sound coming from the front on the drivers side. Don't think it was there when I took the car to the shop. Any suggestions are appreciated. thanks in advance. -Anna

Inspect that tire and rotate it to a rear to see if sound follows it. A bad bearing usually makes a growl at first like a nobby tire is on that wheel and sometimes gets louder or goes silent with steering left or right. Replacement bearings come as a whole sealed unit, bearing, hub and studs for wheel,
